Everything Everywhere All At Once

I wanted this poster to give the viewer a glimpse of this action-packed, transformative multiverse to intrigue them and leave them wanting more.

I was initially drawn to this film for its bizarre, mind-bending style. To focus on this visual hook, I illustrated the alternate versions of herself that Evelyn taps into as she fights to save the multiverse from Jobu Tupaki’s wrath. To further express the whirlwind she’s experiencing while going through these universes, I varied my illustration in detail, looseness, and depth. My goal was to capture how unstable and chaotic Evelyn’s powers are as she struggles to channel them and risks losing control.

I also based several elements off of circles as they symbolize key plot points in the film. For Jobu Tupaki, circles represent an endless loop of despair which spirals into her motive for mass destruction. In contrast, the playful googly eyes open Evelyn up to her husband’s mindset of optimism, empathy, and acceptance. These two opposing outlooks ultimately reflect the difference between the protagonist and antagonist. Although both have their own struggles, it becomes a battle between embracing it and seeking the good or settling in the bad as it sinks you deeper into its darkness. To depict the control circles have over these characters, I wanted the entire composition to also be revolving around a circle. I accomplished this through the Evelyns and surrounding elements to wrap around herself as she focuses on making a decision. At this point in the plot, it is her choice on how to view this chaotic circle which will change how she’s able to manages her powers and if she can take down Jobu Tupaki.
