This is a piece from my series where I create alternative movie posters with a change in either genre, style, time period, etc. from the original plot.
For Knives Out I decided to tell the story in a vintage circus style.
This is the moodboard I created before starting the sketching process. I focused on a vintage circus style because I felt representing the Thrombey family perfectly captured their chaotic and wild nature. I also wanted to experiment with using knife throwing as a circus act to symbolize the relationship between the family and Marta once they discovered who was on the will.
I then began a series of thumbnails. After I refined those ideas to six drawings, I chose the third composition and created the basic layout in illustrator before moving to photoshop to finish the poster.
