Where the Crawdads Sing

I was inspired by Kya’s sketchbook from the film which serves an emotional purpose of feeling a connection with her mother as she decorates it with the paints she gave her. It also serves a physical purpose to document anything from marsh plants to big moments in her life. Wanting to capture Kya’s sentimental side with her artistry, I wanted the poster to look like it came straight out of her collection of paintings in her sketchbook. To accomplish this, I rendered the subjects in a painterly style combined with the handwritten title and a large paper cutout of the birds she deeply admires and relates too. I also wanted to overlap this bird visual with her present and younger self to represent her life thus far versus the freedom she seeks.
